Dates: Sunday 8th September - Sunday 15th
Price: CAD $8050
We arrive at Camp Bonaventure on Sunday 8th September with time to get settled in the evening and get the tackle prepared for seven full days of fishing. It really is the complete package, from the moment you arrive at the camp you receive the very best treatment, it is like being reunited with family the atmosphere is so welcoming. The lodge has every comfort you would ever need, a cosy living area to lounge in after a day on the water, catering that cannot be described in words and en suite bedrooms that are exceptionally comfortable.
Every morning begins with a superb breakfast that sets you up for the days fishing ahead, the guides pick the guests up every morning and set off for their beats. Your first day on the water is one you will never forget, the first time you witness the gin clear water of the Bonaventure and seeing the huge Salmon of the Petit Cascapedia will give you memories that will last a lifetime. The fishing is exceptionally technical and it will have you thinking in ways that you could only of imagined. These rivers are the very best in the world for dry fly fishing for Atlantic Salmon, the first time I ever had a fish rise for the dry fly I froze! I just stood in amazement as a large salmon rose over 12 feet in the water to perfectly head and tail over my bomber. Lunch is held on the riverbank and again you will be amazed at the service you can recieve in the middle of the wildeness of quebec. I am going to be be totally open and transparent about the fishng on this trip, it is tough! If you are someone who needs to catch twenty salmon a day then this not the place to be, the fish do not give themselves up easy, the slightest wrong move, a splashy cast and you can wave goodbye to your chances. But its not even the fish you land that make the trip memorable, its seeing the fish lifting slightly in the water as your fly swings past, its watching them follow the fly across the pool and witnessing them rising up to within an inch of taking your dry fly that makes fishing at Camp Bonaventure the ultimate experience!
After an exhilerating day on the water you are greeted by a fresh towel and a cold beer before heading into the lodge for a meal that is beyond 5 star. The staff at the camp are remarkable, adding that extra touch at every oppurtunity.
Tacklewise for this trip i would recomend bringing three rods. A 10’ single hander rated for a #7 or #8 (16-18 grams) a switch rod of 11’ rated for a #8 (18 grams) because I never travel anywhere without mine and a small double hander being 12’6’’ or 13’ with a maximum line weight of a #7 (24-26 grams). Floating weight forward lines for the single hander for using with the dry fly and for the other rods a selection of heads. You change flies alot here so dont scrimp on the leaders, although there is a well supplied tackle shop at the camp for those essentials. Speaking of flies, you want bombers, hitch flies and a good selection of wets tied on tubes and double hooks. The guides are big believers in matching the flies to the background, so that means a lot of blues, greens and blacks.
For more information about the availability, prices, dates , flights and the fishing feel to get in touch via email using email@example.com or call 07544308098, I am always free to talk about this trip, there is not a day goes by where i dont think of the lessons I have learnt here.
